Week 5 + 6 Training Recap

Hi All! The past couple of weeks have been pretty busy for me! But I have been doing an okay job with training. I haven’t been documenting my running plans on here the past couple of weeks and I realized that I do better with training when I do document. I feel like all my invisible readers hold me accountable haha.

Week 5 was a good week. I put in the miles and workouts I had set out to do. I am most proud for setting out for my long run on Saturday and sticking to it. I did “The Loop” for the first time. The Loop, starts near the Art Museum and goes down Kelly Drive, you run all the way to the East Falls Bridge, run across the bridge and run along West River Drive which “loops” all the way back to the Art Museum. West River drive is closed to traffic on Saturdays during the day throughout spring and summer, so that runners and bikers can utilize it! West River Drive is lined with trees and greenery and its a nice, quiet route and a little escape from the noise of the city.

I loved doing the loop! It was really challenging towards the end because I was logging the most miles I have done during this training. I did a total of 8 miles. By the time I got to the Art Museum I had to think about how I was getting home. I was starving and decided to run to Shake Shack. It really motivated to finish up my run because I still had about 2 miles to Shake Shack and I was STARVING. All I could think about was that Shack Burger and Chocolate Milkshake. I’m going to run like I’m running to Shake Shack for every run going forward.

This past week was not as successful as Week 5.  There was yet another heat wave in Philadelphia and I had to travel to New York City for work on Wednesday which took a lot out of me. I worked out Monday on the Treadmill, and then didn’t get back out until this morning. I did two miles total in rainy weather. I’m proud I made it out there in the rain but was not happy with my splits. I had a 10 min split for my first mile and then 11 min split on my second mile… even tho I did 4 sprints through out the second mile. Every day is going to be a good training day. I just have to get back out there more next week.

This weekend I’m going back to NYC for a family trip. I am thinking of running in Central Park. Central Park is about a 6 mile loop and my hotel is only half a mile a way from the park. I know if I write it down here I am more likely to set out to do it. Soooo I am going out to do it. Stay tuned.

I’ll be back Sunday to document my training plan for Week 7!
